What's in the Box? 846 Quest rooftop cargo bag, 4 x attachment straps, stuff sack, and instruction guide Manufacturer's Warranty Limited lifetime warranty About Thule To say that Thule's beginnings in the U.S. were humble would be an understatement. Founding member Ake Skeppner sold products at windsurf competitions on the New England shoreline, exhibited the product line at a number of different trade shows, and even canvassed local retailers in the greater New York area, all from his "office"--a now-famous station wagon. Initial success was found in the small but growing sport of windsurfing where a strong, reliable roof rack was an indispensable piece of equipment. This was quickly followed by success in the ski business where Thule's Swedish heritage certainly helped the product gain rapid acceptance. By the mid-1980s, the company sold products directly to ski and windsurfing shops but sold through distributors to address the large and growing bike business. A risky decision was made to terminate these distributor relationships and sell direct to retailers through a network of independent sales representatives. Much of the company's market success today can be traced to that decision. Shortly after, Ake hired an engineer and set up a small assembly plant in Elmsford, New York in order to design and manufacture bike carriers that would offer the features demanded by the U.S. consumer and compete effectively with other racks on the market. The company has since grown rapidly through product innovation, a commitment to quality, and the continuance of a strong entrepreneurial spirit as well as continuing to evolve their products to meet the needs of users.

Thule 846 Rooftop bag helps to incease cargo capacity July 25, 2010 M. Ho (MA, USA) With a small car (Prius), we simply do not have enougth room to fit everything(kid & dog) for a week at the beach. Installed the roof rack, but did not want to spend too much for the roof top cargo carrier, so we tried the bag. It was amazing how much we can pack into it! Our kid & dog could then sit confortably in the back....... All in all, we are very glad to have it.
Couples things need to be aware of:
1. Rain!! if travel during wet weather, the bag is not ideal, things will get wet
2. Puiing the bag on/off the roof can be difficult if you have a lot.
3. Decrease gas millage: With the roof bag on, there was a noticible decrease in our gas millage, as compare to a similar trip with the same amount of stuffs in the car
good product June 22, 2010 William Chang This is a good product for casual travel. It can pack in a lot clothing and irregular shaped objects, which would be a problem for using a hard box.
great value March 8, 2010 David Maestas (Denver, CO) i was originally looking for a hard cover for top of my honda pilot for family road trip last summer. but they are expensive. i found this and the price is great and since I'll only be using it a few time a year, i think it's a great value. a little difficult to load though. found it easier to just load stuff after it's installed on the car. another thing you'll want to do is find a way to secure the hanging straps, else will drive you nuts while flapping on the highway. definitely well worth the money though. i hope to use if for many many years.
Solid Build Cargo Carrier March 8, 2010 M. Deschaine I got this carrier to replace a old no name brand $25 cargo bag I was using.
The Quest is smaller than my current one but I wanted something smaller, the other one I have is huge. Wind drag is a factor for me and mileage. This is more aerodynamic looking hopefully it will make a difference.
I opened the box and I love it has its own carry bag wrapped up inside. I took it out and made sure I watched how it unfolded so I can put it back in. I shoved 4 sleeping bags inside and a few other things and it all fit nicely. The build of the Quest seems sturdy as well. I put it on top of my Jeep and attached it to my Thule X-Bars to see how it would go on and the only thing I could of wished for was some side straps like my other one had but I do not think this will be a problem.
I let it sit in the rain and checked it afterwards and there was hardly any moisture inside. Granted I have not taken this on any trips yet but I can tell I will be very happy with this cargo bag.
Versatile and Secure February 6, 2010 Craig Vera (Saint Louis, MO USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We used this cargo bag to travel about 1600 miles in a Honda Civic. Packing it was easy and efficient. The Quest stayed put on the roof securely using aftermarket strap-on bar racks. It did slide a little in 40+mph cross winds but stayed firmly on the roof.
We took it off the roof of the car twice for overnight hotel stays and, although it was heavily loaded, it was actually quite easy to move.
I think the Quest cost us 5-8mpg gas mileage in the Civic.
There was no visible wear or damage to the Quest after our trip.
Overall, I am very impressed with this product and am happy to have purchased it. We did not test the water-resistance of this product, but had everything packed in plastic bags.
