Great Purchase July 29, 2010 sunny (La Jolla, CA) On my Honda Pilot the roof box worked great. I was able to carry three sleeping bags, four chairs, a tent, sun structure and a coffee pot and lantern. On the next trip it held 3 out of 4 golf clubs. We experienced some rain on the trip and everything stayed dry. The box had a minimal impact on gas mileage, and road securely.
Holds a lot but leaked a little July 23, 2010 Easy-G (Atlanta, GA USA) I bought our SportRack Aero XL from our local AutoZone for $199 + tax a few months ago. It mounts on our minivan's roof rack with no additional equipment. The total height installed is about 7' 5". I was happy about the height because our garage door opens to 7' 10" so we can park in our garage with it installed. You'll want to take your own measurements. It's a little awkward carrying it, but I am able to install it by myself. I bought a light weight two-step folding stool with handle to load it up from the sides. I found it too difficult to load from the rear because of the bubbled back end of our mini van. We were able to put a pack-n-play, a booster seat, three suit cases, and a few other small items in it. It gets over 110 degrees inside it so you'll want to be careful and not place anything with a low melting point in it (makeup, chocolate, etc...). As others have mentioned you'll need a place to store it when not in use. I have ours sitting on top of a large shelf unit with wheels. I had to pull it away from the wall so it would fit on top. There are nicer cargo boxes out there but the price can easily double or triple. We only take 2 or 3 big trips a year so I didn't feel the extra features would be worth it for us. I don't see any reason why this cargo box shouldn't last 20+ years for our use. The manual says not to drive with it installed while carrying less than 40 pounds in it. I might have just been lucky, but I didn't have any issues when I drove about 200 miles with it empty because we had no place to store it while on vacation. We drove through some very heavy rain and found about a quarter cup of water inside. Because of the design of the bottom none of our stuff was wet. I will add weather stripping to the front lip before our next trip to see if it fixes the leaking problem.
I love this roof rack July 15, 2010 happy traveler Put this up myself without a problem. So happy with the amount I could pack into it. No worries while traveling.
This made our trip so much more comfortable in the interior of the car. Why didn't I buy this years ago?
